“Cultural contacts and Mediterranean influences in the late Bronze Age in Albania: life and death in the periphery of the Micenean world” by Lorenc Bejko

The forth meeting of the GDA Seminar Series for this season took place in the library of ICAA on January 25th, 2007. It was attended by nearly 30 people, members of ICAA, IoA and University students.

The topic: “Cultural contacts and Mediterranean influences in the late Bronze Age in Albania: life and death in the periphery of the Micenean world” was presented by Lorenc Bejko.

In the presentation was introduced a general review of all the Micenean objects reported till now from Albania and their classification following the sequence of the most important events in the Micenean world. A discussion developed about the place and role that this objects played in the development of the identity of the local culture of the community of the late Bronze Age, with a contextual and typological analysis. Theoretical models of World System and Centre - Periphery were used later for the interpretation of the dynamics of the cultural process of the late Bronze Age in Albania. Were presented comparisons between the periphery of Micene, with the nearby regions like Central and West Macedonia, Epirus, and south Italy.

A lively discussion followed the presentation. Among the others I. Gjipali, I. Pojani, E. Grizhja dhe J. Buzo made some questions and debated lively about different issues of the Micenean culture and her influence in Albania.
