On May 17th 2006, in the conference
hall “Illyria” 2 of the Sheraton Hotel, ICAA and IoA organised the
celebration of the 70th birthday anniversary of the director of the
IoA, Professor Muzafer Korkuti.

In this occasion was also promoted the
book “New directions in Albanian Archaeology”, a collection of
essayes from a considerable number of Albanian and foreign scholars.
The opening speech was delivered by Professor Richard Hodges,
followed by Professor Luan Omari. Iris Pojani presented the activity
of ICAA, and Ilir Gjipali offered a short biography of the
professional life of Professor Korkuti.

It was Lorenc Bejko who made the
presentation of the book “New directions in Albanian Archaeology”,
which is the first major overview of Albanian archaeology, and it
will be the first of a series of monographs of ICAA.

This celebration was attended by
colleagues of different countries and albanian archaeologist,
friends, and family of Professor Korkuti.
Jack Davis, John Papadopoulos, Kosta Zachos, and Kemal Luci
presented their projects and work in Albania, and mentioned, as well
as the Albanian colleagues Neritan Ceka, Zhaneta Andrea, Skender
Aliu, Afrim Hoti, and Gëzim Hoxha, moments from the life and the
work that they have shared with Professor Muzafer Korkuti.

They saluted and valued the long and
tireless work of a colleague and friend who has given a great
contribution in Albanian archaeology and in the education of the new
generation of Albanian archaeologists.

Besides the ceremony, a photographical
exposition on the activity of Professor Korkuti also took place. The
cocktail at the end gave the chance to meet journalists from various
TVs and to deliver interviews, as well as to carry on conversations
among friends.
