In the library of ICAA on March, 9th
2006 took place the traditional meeting of the Group for
Archaeological Debate.
It was attended by approximately 25 people, members of ICAA, IoA,
IoM and students from UT.

The topic of this meeting was “New
Palaeolithic research in Albania”, presented by the deputy director
of the Institute of Archaeology, Ass. Professor Ilir Gjipali.
Gjipali brought an interesting overview of the Palaeolithic and
Mesolithic in the Balkans and especially in Albania.

After an introduction on the studies
done regarding this topic before WW II, he referred on the new
developments that Albanian archaeology has made, especially since
1990, and the surveys which have brought to light 32 new sites where
prehistoric finds - stone tools - have been found in abundance. He
talked also about the movements of the coastal lines and the sea
level which have caused radical changes in the landscape since the
Palaeolithic.

The questions made by L. Bejko, G.
Hoxha, I. Zaloshnja and others brought up the discussion on various
matters.

The next meeting will be on March,
23rd 2006. Ass. Professor Gezim Hoxha from IoA will present the
topic “The archaeological aspects of Christianization in Late
Antiquity (Praevalis province).”
