The second meeting of the Group for
Archaeological Debate took place in the library of ICAA on
February,23rd 2006. It was attended by as many as twenty five
people, members of the ICAA, IoA and IoM.

The topic of this meeting was “A
revisit of the interpretation of the Neolithic terracotta figurines
from Albania”, presented by Rudenc Ruka.

Ruka provided an interesting overview
of the theoretical and methodological approaches that many similar
studies have proposed. Building on these approaches, he has started
to create a framework for the interpretation of the figurines from
Dunavec, with the goal of extending this study to the whole body of
Neolithic figurines from Albania. The presentation raised
considerable interest and was followed by many interesting questions
and discussions.
Many more interesting discussions continued during the
“now-traditional, post-seminar gathering.”

Among the most active discussants in
this case, (as the photographic documentation shows) were Ilir
Zaloshnja, Albana Meta, Ols Lafe. Not surprisingly, the issue
debated quite lively was that of the reform of the scientific
research, recently proposed by the Government.

This very issue will be the focus of
out next extraordinary meeting, on Tuesday, February 28th, at 18.00
PM. With the title “Reforming the Archaeological System in Albania”
the main goal of our next meeting is to discuss models of conceptual
and institutional reformation of the Archaeological System in the
country and define the best ways of promoting and explaining them
among the decision-making bodies of the Government as well as the
wider public.
