In the third Meeting of the GAD
Seminar Series, Susan Allen of the University of Cincinnati gave a
very interesting presentation on “Bronze Age Sovjan in its
Environmental Context“. Through a series of interesting analysis and
charts, Allen pointed out the trajectory of environmental changes
around the settlement and outlined the dynamic relationships between
man and its natural setting throughout the Bronze Age. Particularly
interesting was the identification of changes in the diet from
middle to late Bronze Age, as attested by paleo-botanical remains of
the site deposits. Of interest was also the presentation of site
catchments analysis and its comparison with the results of the
ethno-archaeological research in the modern village. The event was
well attended and the participants raised a number of interesting
questions and discussions.
